It’s been awhile since we’ve done a Denmark Derby post, though for the life of me I don’t know why. It’s not as though we haven’t been doing things around here! There’s still lots to discover of course around here, but with a few years under our belts, I also noticed that we have our own favorites that we like to return to again and again. For example, we nearly always head north to the beaches mostly because we have grown to love them and they’re closer to where we live.
But just the other weekend, we here headed south instead for something else and it was one of those days where the morning was off to a bit of a frazzled start, and I already had some anxiety about heading back to work…then all of the sudden there was the beautiful sound of silence in the car…the two little ones were both asleep, I didn’t even turn on the radio. So we kept driving and driving and eventually ended up somewhere between Ishoj and Koge, on this beautiful strip called the Solrod Strand.
I can’t speak to how this place is in the the summer, but I can only imagine that it’s gorgeous given how lovely it was looking in the cold winter light. If you looked to the right, you saw the dark clouds rolling in; if you looked to the left then bright blue skies with sea grasses swaying in the breeze. The winter wind was out in full force – a Babette’s feast moment if you will – and it got cold quickly but not before we got a quick walk in.
Since that weekend, I’ve actually had a few Danes tell me that the southern beaches are actually prettier but people don’t go as much – I’m not sure if that’s code for something or not but I suspect we might investigate ourselves one more time.
