It was supposed to be a slow January – Januaries usually are. And somehow, three trips to Paris appeared on my calendar and one cancellation for a “sunshine trip” (i.e. personal vacation) to Oman fell off…Not that I’m complaining as Paris is a pretty nice place to go as far as work trips go. And while I definitely could have used the Vitamin D boost, it will have to wait until there’s a bit more time in the schedule, and I’ll console myself with macaroons instead (but not too many…since we have to be ready for that vitamin D trip at any time!)
When I lived Paris, someone told me that the rest of the world will think Paris in January in the worst but if you live in Paris, it’s the best. They were right. It’s the one time of year where Paris doesn’t feel busy. The restaurants and museums are yours for the taking, no lines; and this is the one of the two times of the year where designer goods are actually reasonnable. Of course again, for work, your route consists of mainly to an office and from an office, but it’s amazing how you feel that you have a lot of the city to yourself. I even did some quality window shopping on an evening walk. That’s the other thing…if you have friends in Paris, chances are, most will be out skiing or sunning, so your evenings are remarkably free.
Last week was just a quick overnight trip so these photos are actually from the previous trip – in December, when a blanket of dark, ominous clouds hung over the city mysteriously but never actually broke out into rain. It’s nice to have this city back as a friend again…
Paris is lovely at this time of year, but I do hope you get to Oman soon. With the dreary weather in DC, I'm pining for some Sifah Beach time, and dying for Turkish House bread + lime mint juice.
stephanie, making note of this recommendations stat…lime mint juice et all seem right up my alley!
I've only been to Paris in the summer, but I would love to visit sometime when things are quieter and there aren't as many tourists. One of my favorite cities by far!
joelle – absolutely – the weather is better just about any other time of year but you'll be rewarded with nearly the whole city to yourself and there is something to be said for that too!
It sounds great – A trip to Paris! I was also lucky enough to have an opportunity to visit Paris in my college days with a group of eleven seniors. I must say Paris is a wonderful place having so many eye catching sights. Of course, I loved the Eiffel tower the most which looks beautiful at night with its twinkling lights. Paris is not only rich in monuments and museums, but it also offers affordable transportation and accommodation services. Renting an apartment in Paris was one of the best ways I found to enjoy the vacation for a week. We rented an apartment from http://www.parisapartmentsbynumbers.com/. They offered us luxurious and affordable services making us feel as if we were living in our own home. I want to go back!
