Well…it turns out that in the big scheme of things are that much more expensive here, strollers aren’t really one of those items. It’s still more expensive here but not like small sundries or electronics (btw, I caught a math error in my first two posts so I’ve updated the differentials on Diet Coke and the iPhone).
I used a Maclaren XT here for comparison just because it’s kind of the middle of the road – well, that’s a relatively statement I guess – it’s the middle of their range. We’ve had both the Volo, which we loved for it’s lightweight traveling nature until Lufthansa carted it off never to be seen again, and then the Quest for our travels since, mostly because we got a good deal on it. So XT is a model up, but not quite into their most super-duper territory. Interesting little factoid, the “cheaper” the stroller (or more basic the model) the higher the cost difference, the further up you go, the more narrow that gap gets.
So for the XT, you can expect to be paying a bit over one third more – I wonder if that’s because the Maclaren is already European to begin with. In which case, I wonder what the going rate for these in the UK is? I don’t think I’ve ever checked in the store so who’s got the scoop?
In other news, the exchange rate is looking up, after a bit of a dip, had I done this when we first got here, that gap would have been a little bigger.
