When I was catching up on magazines during my flights, this gorgeous apartment from Elle Decor caught my eye. It’s living proof that two nearly opposite worlds can co-exisit and the art is finding the right balance.
The apartment had many of its original period features yet had been unoccupied since 1963, and some of the original artistic, more ornamental touches had been under plywood for the last 150 years – can you imagine? It didn’t even have electricity in the ceilings! The original chandeliers had been candles.
What a challenge then to merge that with the governing principles of Danish design. Yet somehow the two worlds spin perfectly together – just going to show that sometimes every bit of maximalism needs a bit of minimalism, and vice versa.
