I don’t know that much about autism. Just putting that out there. Not as much as I should at any rate. Growing up, it’s just not something I heard about a lot. Perhaps I wasn’t listening, but I suspect it also has something to do with no one really knowing a lot about it unless it impacted you on a more personal level. And perhaps it has something to do with the fact that perhaps people didn’t talk about autism quite as freely.
Temple Grandin, with Claire Danes, started to put some pieces together for me in terms of what living as a young adult with autism means. But I think as a parent now, I appreciate how little is told about a a parent’s perspective – and I’m counting on this new movie, The United States of Autism to shed a bit of light.
