There also seems to be a home here for all kinds of magical objects that I otherwise probably wouldn't know what to do with. And the book section...you could leave here with arm loads. One thing I never really noticed before (probably because it didn't really apply to me before) was the children's section and how wonderfully curated it is. You'll find all the classics you grew up with, and chances are you'll find them in the prettiest edition you've seen yet, but they also have books that are specific to the region. While first I got a chuckle out of the fact that there are books about frozen lakes and moose and northern lights, I then thought "well, why wouldn't there be?". It's important to know all the children's stories that are treasured through time, but it's just as important to know and appreciate the immediate world around you.
And then there are those installations that you never would have thought up on your own - like a chandelier made entirely from vintage grade school flash cards...

When I was growing up, in the back of the store was a soda fountain where malts and shakes were the order of the day. This was probably the first, and for awhile, the only place in Fargo to get a coffee that was espresso based. I can't even count the number of hours I spent here as a high school student...
The table settings area made me want to throw a dinner party right then and there...

It looks like an amazing shop!! And the books - This Moose Belongs to Me is just a beautiful book - lovely story and great illustrations (but then so many of Oliver Jeffers books are amazing) and Scaredy Squirrel are another series of great books by Melanie Watt. Worth buying to DiploTot I would say!
ReplyDeletethey looked gorgeous - i picked up a few but I'll have to look for the squirrel one, diplo-tot has a major love affair with squirrels now!
