Why be on the move?

ENDLESS_NO.1_OUT_NOW from THE GAABS on Vimeo.

I must get asked at least five times a week if we don't get tired of moving around - picking up and going every couple of years.  I always answer no - the actual act of moving sometimes is fatiguing, and with a growing family, that means a growing number of things to move which adds to that - but aside from that, no, I don't get tired of that.  At this point, I think we live for that - the new adventure, a new way of doing things, new friends to make while reconnecting with old friends that are in a new area, seeing and experiencing still just a small slice of what's out there in the world.  I love that, but then again, you have to love that for this lifestyle.  It's always a challenge to explain eloquently, so when I happened upon this video, which I actually meant to share a while back, I thought this family put words together with images so beautifully as to why they themselves were on the move.  And not only are they on the move, they're actually called the "Trip" family!  This summer they had plans to devote a magazine to their travels, but I'm not sure where the project is at this point, things seem to have gone radio silent on the blog.  Perhaps they're traveling waaaaaaaay out there.

And speaking of moving, we're starting to hear more about what's next for us - we should have an announcement in the coming month or so, so stay tuned!

  1. I just discovered your blog recently (I can't remember where) and I'm really enjoying it. I just moved to Beijing last month and am living in a district where there are a lot of diplomats. I'm actually a teacher at an international school, so I get to meet a lot of expats that way. I love hearing everyone's stories; I always think they're so fascinating, so I'm loving reading yours!
