Fall is definitely here - at least, it's finally here for me! The warm days in the DC area made it possible to carry out the transition longer than it probably should have gone on, but I'm finally with it. Maybe it was this weekend's visit to the pumpkin patch, complete with toasted marshmallows over the fire and cold hands and even a pumpkin spice latte that finally brought me across the line.Although truth be told, we've been slowly getting to the fall spirit for a while - a few weekends back we visited dear friends in North Carolina. And while the weather there was even warmer than in DC, all the gorgeous fall hues we associate with the change of seasons were already making a little peek out and about. Autumn sunflowers...squashes and gourds...purple okra...even tobacco leaves drying. I don't think I've seen those since leaving the South after college (which was incidentally, also the first time I had ever seen those).
Here are a few shots from Duke Gardens - definitely worth a visit if you're in the Raleigh-Durham area.

it seems that our next posting is DC!
