Photography Friday: Clifford Ross's Hurricane...

To close out our Hamptons themed week, I couldn't help but to think of the wave images by photographer and artist Clifford Ross.  While we enjoyed nothing but sunshine and cooling breezes while we were there, people were already talking about the storms and waves that would be coming as a result of the Isaac spin-off, so I imagine the beach next week will look very similar to these pictures from Ross's Hurricane series.

These are mesmerizing to me, almost meditative. It's amazing how much detail you can capture around one subject if you focus on it exclusively.  And these aren't just casual shots that he came upon - in order to get these images, Ross actually went out into hurricanes, first to capture these waves on film and then again to recapture the series with digital, each time tethering himself by rope to the shore or to an assistant, sometimes going out in chest deep water.  A wave can tell quite a story - don't these make you feel like you could walk right into it? Makes me cold just thinking about it.
