One of the things I always adored about walking around Vienna (other than the fact I generally adore walking around Vienna) is literally the countless fonts that you see on buildings and stores. They definitely fall into the category of “you don’t see things like this anymore”. Some from a century (or two) ago, some from more of a Mad Men era, but you really get a sense of when a building or store opened based on their lettering out front since many times, it’s the original signage. One of my dream projects is to return to Vienna just to photograph the various fonts about town since I could do so for hours and these few photos don’t do it justice at all. I think it might just make a fine coffee table book, no?
