On the Nantucket Shore...
With only a year left in the US, I mentioned that the bucket list is starting to get drawn up. And I've always wanted to see the classic Northeast American sea-shore....Nantucket...Cape Cod...Newport...Martha's Vineyard...even the Hamptons. I've never gotten an opportunity to see any of those but is there anything more classic americana (exotic america?) for the summer?
We're going to see if we can squeeze something in this year - it turns out that a lot of these places aren't necessarily to easy to get too if you only have a weekend (even a long one) to work with. I guess it keeps the short-term interlopers out, and there is something to be said for that.
Nantucket is close to the top of that list and I remembered this great house featured in Elle Decor about a year ago. While not necessarily everything is to my taste, they did such a beautiful job combining very modern interiors with a very classic house. I love when peope show that a mix is best. Also, to add to my list of things I'd like "if I ever have a beach house"...the house has to have a name. Definitely. And a road that leads out to the ocean...Definitely.

We've been to ACK a couple times from DC. The cheapest flights are connections through NY or Logan, but US Airways has some direct flights in the summer. We've also driven, but we had to do it in stages, stopping at my parents' in North Jersey since it's at least an 8 hour drive. Unless there's summer traffic, in which case it could be a 16 hour drive. Then you still have to take a ferry.
ReplyDeleteWe can definitely help you make a nice itinerary if you end up going. There are some insider secrets that our friend, whose family has a house up there, has shared with us.
We stayed in Wellfleet, Cape Cod for a week a few years ago and LOVED IT! We still talk about it. We created some cherished family memories that week. We stayed at a house on the highest crest of a tidal island (Lieutenant Island)- the tide washed out the road twice a day. We had all sorts of activities planned but ended up loving just meandering down to our very secluded beach, catching ghost crabs, beach combing, wading in the calm waters. I can't recommend it enough. But it did take awhile to drive there... hope you make it!
ReplyDeleteSwoon! I love all these photos. Makes me want to a summer home now! Going to the Cape in July. Can't wait!
