I had to share this as just saw
this necklace pop up in the J Crew new arrivals today. I actually bought this a couple of months back at the Georgetown store (thanks Flor!) right off the mannequin for the Italy trip and still keep getting compliments on it nearly every time I wear it - and I've been wearing it a lot - in fact, I even have it on today ;) . I've even been back to the J Crew store and the employees themselves have asked me where I bought it since it wasn't around for very long.
Here's the really cool thing though - the whole necklace was inspired by visual artist Orly Genger who hand knots rope into visual installations. One of
the J Crew designers her friends, Jaclyn Mayer, who is also a jewerly designer, visited her studio and was inspired to put together this necklace. The artist herself has been wearing it - it made its debut at her recent opening. I'm kind of excited to have had one of the first ones, and now not only does it come in the "safety cone orange" (as i call it) that I have but also in a bright blue if that's more your thing.
Kind of neat to be wearing a piece of sculpture and just the perfect pop of color for the summer - especially when you're headed into a six hour meeting like I'm about to! Here is a bit more of Ms. Ganger's work below. I have to say, the necklace makes so much more sense now.
I have been on the hunt for a fantastic statement necklace and I think I've found it now. Simply gorgeous!
