One of the neatest things about attending the Alt Summit this past January – in addition to meeting an inspiring group of people, is to actually be inspired to do something. To get out and try different things, even if it means putting yourself out there to a wider unknown.
I’m so excited to be collaborating with the brand new Equals Record, an online prelude to the launch that they are planning for the Equals Quarterly publication. Founded by Elisabeth Fraser and Miya Hirabayashi, it’s meant to be a collection of the treasured stories that women seem to be sitting upon mountains of. Those life experiences that mold and form who you are. I’ve been penning a weekly column called Lessons for Clara, which is a collection of letters that draws up on the experiences of where we live and where we visit. When we travel – and it seems like we’re always on the go – there are so many things that I make a mental note of, but I’ve struggled with what is the best vehicle to aknowledge and record those thoughts. This blog has been tremendous in that regard. The column is a dedicated place to share some of those thoughts in a more structured way, partially for my daughter when she will be old enough to read them, but also to a broader audience. I think the fact that each place we visit can have such an impact really does show that we really are shaped by the places we go, the people we meet, and the experiences we have.
Check out this week’s column on Bologna and if you’re interested in a little more, there is also a column about Vienna, and Washington too. And be sure to check out the work of the other contributors – there are some truly beautiful and touching essays about all aspects of life written by some truly outstanding bloggers, writers, and everyday ladies. This is definitely one for a nice cup of coffee – I’ll guarantee you’ll stay awhile.
