Exotic America: Highway 1

All of today's earthquake madness made me realize I forgot one batch of photos from our California trip.  Perhaps there is nothing more exotic America than the open road and one of the most dramatic candidates is Highway 1, very much worth a driving tour.  A particularly beautiful stretch can be found between Carmel and the Big Sur park area - gorgeous colors, precipitous drop offs, and shades of blue waves that make me wish I knew how to surf (except for around here it looks a bit cold in that water).  State parks full of trails and picnic places dot the road and offer plenty of first class photo ops.  Apparently the scenery is not only for people either - California cattle graze by the oceanside (which makes this a back up plan in case my reincarnation as an alpine cow doesn't work out). It really is one of the most unique coastlines that you'll see worldwide.

  1. Gorgeous pictures. Cole and I need to take a convertible along that route. Some things are cliche because they're awesome.

  2. Oh my goodness. These pictures are so gorgeous. Can you imagine living with scenery like that every single day? Just spectacular!

  3. I have driven that road and I must say that your photos are very much better than the ones I took when I was there a few years ago.

  4. Thanks so much for the compliments! Indeed it's a stunning drive, highly recommend. Now i just need to do something about getting a wide angle lens so that i can cram more of this scenery into the frame!

And bob, yes, some cliches are just awesome.
