On the streets of Budapest...

This time around in Budapest we spent most of our time on the Pest side - you could call it the "new" side, in relative terms, but it's not exactly spic'n'span new.  Buda has the beautiful churches, old town and overlooks, but Pest has a certain city grittiness and is full of art nouveau and 60's era fonts and signs.  Here are a some shots from our walk around town.

The museums in Budapest are countless, and places to eat even more so.  The city isn't quite the steal I remembered it to be during my student days but still a relative bargain to the quality you get, and wines are to die for.  Budapest could use a second look from some of the travel magazines for an updated profile but during our couple of years here, the advice in the following articles has been helpful:

Budapest: A Welcome Transformation, Town and Country Travel
36 Hours in Budapest, New York Times
Budapest: New Darling City of the EU

This was about the fourth car collision we had seen in one day.

"Get your Sting and Blackout" - Spoken like a true slogan of the East.  I thought their farewell tour came right around the time the wall came down, but apparently you can still catch it this June.  Roxette will also be kicking off their comeback tour in Budapest this summer.

What the streets used to be full of - now you're lucky to spot just one.

Beautiful calligraphy for the Menu of the Day.
