Market Fresh...

Who knew that produce could be so excellent in an island city full of dubious smelling dank canals? But fresh produce it can be indeed! The Rialto market has all sorts of fruits and vegetables to make the mouth water - from blood oranges that are literally blood red, to shiny artichokes that look nearly artificial, to the deep pigments of the radicchio treviso curls....Mmmm...These are the kinds of markets that give you fantasies of throwing it all and moving to Europe where you would dither around with a wicker basket while going to the market every day to see what you'll make for dinner.  Then you realize that you'll actually have to pay for these market goods, as well as for the pension of every vendor selling them, and the fantasy goes "poof!".  But a girl can dream...
