Given that I work from home and I kind of work Vienna hours, kind of London hours, and kind of US hours, a lot of my one-on-one social calendar is built around meeting people for breakfast. Vienna is a city that doesn’t exactly re-invent itself every six months so new places to try – especially when you are lazy and live in the center of town and insist on staying in the center of town – are rare to come by.
But there is a new kid in town. The Motto group opened up their new digs, Motto am Fluss, at the new boating station just this past summer. The restaurant is still tough to get into (tip: definitely call a few days in advance and expect some ‘tude – like most places here in Vienna, you could still probably show up and get seated when you point out half the reserved tables have been empty for the past hour, but we’ve never been that motivated). But a good work around is the top floor cafe for breakfast. Ginormous fresh and flaky crossaints, soy milk options for coffee drinks, and a yummy banana cinammon hot chocolate stood out for me yesterday morning when I finally made it over. As an added bonus, glass walls give you an excellent view of the Danube canal, and with the snowstorm in full swing, it was a perfect place to watch.
