So after hemming and hawing on all the right dishes, and the final trips to the grocery store, and finally drumming up something for the table setting, here is how the final Thanksgiving menu turned out. It was a wonderful evening full of wonderful friends, and to top things off, we made our guests perform a Thanskgiving pageant full of historically inappropriate simplifications (“Me Chief Squanto! You auslander!).
With so much to be grateful this year, we’re hoping that all of our friends, family and readers are celebrating with their families and counting their blessings. Happy Thanksgiving!
Vienna 2010 Thanskgiving Menu
Butternut Squash Soup with Cider Cream and Chives
Veuve Cliquot Brut Champagne
Herb Roasted Turkey Breast – a whole turkey would have never fit in our efficient euro-oven
Blank Canvas Mashed Potatoes from Two Dudes and a Pan (no skimping on butter and cream, it’s a holiday!)
Marshmallow Sweet Potatoes – who can resist something so distintly American? but I think I’ll give the streusel topping a go next year for a little reminder of Austria
Ginger and Cashew Green Beans – something light and fresh to lighten the load
Port Cranberry Sauce with Figs– the cranberry sauce I’ve been making since graduate school
Panamera Cuvee, Napa Valley, California 1997
Gruner Veltliner, Ebner Ebenauer, Austria
