I’ve been coveting a MassimoVitali print for some time after seeing them so effectively execute the spirit of vacation on the beach, and so artfully placed in casual chic homes. What I’d really love is one of his diasec plate prints, with their saturated colors, wide angle panoramas and glossy, glassy feel. But I would even settle for an official print on paper in a white frame. Sadly, these aren’t the days where I have thousands of dollars milling about (were there ever such days?), so inspired by Mr. Vitali, I made my own attempt at photographing the masses at leisure.
In his own words, Mr. Vital tries to capture “the inner conditions and disturbances of normality: it’s cosmic fakery, sexual innuendo, commodified leisure, deluded sense of affluence, and rigid conformism.” I can’t speak for how well the cosmic fakery comes across in these shots, but the idea was to get a feel for European beach-goers and the surrounding colors, which give a sense of life all their own. My attempts below, along with a couple of shots of homes that have incorporated Vitali prints. Consider his work on my wish list!
