Fresh from the Pays Basque with a tan (and somehow a cold -who gets a cold on the beach?), our trip left me with all sorts of inspirations for this week’s blogs. During my strolls through St. Jean de Luz, where we spent most of our time, I realized that the Mariniere is never out of style in coastal France – desipte its global resurgence this year- and it can be had for a variety of prices. I thought I had taken all sorts of pictures of the Mariniere on the street, but turns out I have nothing to show.
With the diplo-baby bump on full display now, I feel a bit bereft without my own collection of my reliable striped classics which no longer pass the plausibility test of “sure this still fits”….Sigh… While a mariniere is easy to wear, when sporting an extra human, horizontal stripes are not. Simply going one size up doesn’t quite do the trick. At this size, one could be easily confused with an optical illusion or an escaped prisoner, but I’ve found a couple of possibly passable options that should serve me well for the remainder of the summer and into the shoulder season. Luckily we still have one more trip to France left this month which should serve as an excellent test drive.
