It seems like my list of “Avoid like the plague” airports is getting longer and longer: Heathrow (unless you’re in Terminal 5, which as a Star Alliance flyer you will not be – you will be in Terminal Far Away and Dumpy), Frankfurt (unless you like rude staff and those interminable bus rides instead of gate service), CDG Paris (you’ll never see your luggage again), O’Hare (you’ll never make your flight and there will probably be a blizzard no matter what time of year…)….
I’ve been noticing Munich has been spiffing up over the past couple of years and I’m pleased to report that ther is a place for everything and everything seems to be in it’s place. Everything is modern, lots of light, everything seems to work….although the walk from the Schengen area to the US based flights is usually farther than I care for, the pleasant surroundings usually make it pass quickly. Good stores and good food options, and the icing on the cake are the now finally open and renovated Lufthansa lounges.
Lots of space and lots of amenities – finally – a lounge with enough space for passengers to sit, natural skylights, rain forest showers, and great refreshments to boot – I snapped a discrete phone pic below. The latest addition, which I spied on this trip, was the addition of an ice cream freezer with baby sized Magnums (kind of an oxymoron, I realize) – though the hour of the day (9 am) and my expanding waist line dictated I should pass on those (but I won’t be fooled next time!). Congrats Munich – it’s officially my connecting airport of choice.
