So here’s the thing about having a spouse that works for the State Department – sometimes your plans change…based on the needs of the State. While that makes perfect and logical sense, there’s always an element of surprise that hits you each time. You never really get used to it – but of course you say you do.
The upside though, is that sometimes it gives you the opportunity to do something else instead – and with this gig, you learn to make plans on the fly. Easter Skiing in Kitzbuhel falls through? No problem, host an Easter Brunch instead. Thursday, invite guests (turns out, there are other likely suspects with changes in plan); Friday night, plan menu; Saturday, do grocery shopping; Saturday afternoon, invite more guests with changes in plans and breathe sigh of relief that you got extra of everything at the store since everything here is closed on Sunday – Easter or not; Saturday night, set table and prep what you can; Sunday morning, pick out a lovely floral number to wear, pour a champagne cocktail and enjoy the good company of friends!
